From 2006 to 2010 Dirk Reinel studied applied computer science at Hof University. Afterwards he enrolled in the 3-semester Master´s programme ‘Internet - Web Science’ during which he already worked part-time for the Institute of Information Systems (iisys).
He and his fellow student Florian Wogenstein wrote their Master’s thesis which was titled ‘Migraine Radar – A Medical Study Based on Data of Web 2.0’. This thesis was the basis for a project that is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It is primarily supposed to investigate the correlation between weather changes and migraine attacks.
Since October 2010 he has been working as a research assistant for the Institute of Information Systems. In the course of his PhD studies in co-operation with the University of Bamberg and supported by the TechnologieAllianzOberfranken (TAO), he developed new algorithms and methods for opinion mining and sentiment analysis. In April 2018, Mr. Reinel successfully completed the doctoral process.
His research focuses on opinion mining, in particular the generation and application of new lexical resources.
