René Peinl grew up in Regensburg and studied business information technology at the university there. After his degree he worked as a technical consultant for the EMEA eProcurement Competence Center at Compaq in Munich, where he gained international experience. Afterwards he did his PhD in knowledge management at the University of Halle, was employed at REHAU AG and worked as an external consultant for IPI GmbH later on. In both companies he was involved in the implementation of SharePoint projects.
Since 2010 he has been a professor at Hof University and has been heading the research group ‚System Integration‘ of the Institute of Information Systems (iisys).
