Modern information systems do not only administrate classic structured data, but increasingly unstructured data such as texts or images. Information systems make the administration of almost all information of an entire organization possible so that users can get a comprehensive digital image of the organization. However, the search in such heterogeneous quantities of data is difficult. For the time being, most systems are not sufficiently supporting an automated linking and analysis of these data.
This team concentrates on supporting structured and unstructured data in information systems and on searching and linking such data. Special emphasis is put on the administration of relational, textual and geographic data. Currently, methods and procedures for accessing ever-increasing amounts of data quickly as well as a standardized access for linking information from different data types are developed.
The research group’s main technology project is the spatial internet search engine SARA.
